Megan Shung, hailed as 'the 21st Century violinist', is an acclaimed international musician based in Los Angeles. Renowned for her versatility in multiple genre and styles, she is a distinguished violinist, erhu player, composer, producer, contractor and educator. Her numerous collaboration include work with Anthony Kiedis, Michael Bublé, Seal, Jhene Aiko, Portugal the Man, Billy Childs, Carl Verheyen and Louis Cole.
She is the co-artistic director of String Project Los Angeles (SPLA), a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the education and performance of bowed string instruments. She also serves as department chair of the World Music Department, as well as Suzuki violin and jazz faculty at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music (PCM). An experienced clinician and speaker, she has presented workshops and lectures both nationally and internationally, with a focus on teaching improvisation. Additionally, she co-founded Wicked GOAT, a contemporary music concert series for young people at PCM.
Megan was born in Houston, Texas, and grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. She attended the LA County High School for the Arts and earned her Bachelor of Music in violin performance with academic honors from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied under David Updegraff and received long-term Suzuki training from Kimberly Meier-Sims. After graduating, she furthered her studies with Paul Kantor in Houston, Texas. Her past mentors include Richard Schwabe and Henry Gronnier. Notable awards include the Dr. Jerome D. Gross Prize in Violin from the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2011 and the 2008 Ambassador Scholarship from the International House of Blues Foundation.
Megan developed a love of performance from a young age; writing, producing, and directing her first play at the age of 9 led her to nurture a deep appreciation for the theatre and a musician's role within it. Notable appearances include The Fiddler in a local production of Steve Martin's "Bright Star", the 2018 production of “Love Actually: LIVE” as Judy at the Wallis Annenberg, Disney Channel’s “Bunk’d” S2, E12: “Food Fight” as Svetlana, original multimedia theater show “Ded!” inspired by the Day of the Dead tradition at the Matrix Theater, and Disney Channel’s “Suite Life of Zack and Cody” S3, E14: “Orchestra”.
